The Town of Coventry has designated members of it's police department which serve on a regionalized Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team between Coventry and the Town of West Warwick. This joint partnership has been serving both communities since the 1990's. Officers on the team received specialized training, above and beyond that of an officer in the patrol division. Team members hold certifications in Crisis Negotiating, Less-Lethal Munitions, Specialized Breaching, Chemical Munitions, and Sniper Deployment, to name a few. Some of the situations team members train in are hostage rescues, active shooter incidents, and high-risk warrant service.
