The Coventry Police Department has closed the application process for qualified individuals for the position of police officer recruit through October 2, 2019. Please note that this is only for those individuals who are NOT currently certified as a police officer by the Rhode Island Police Officers Commission of Standards and Training (POST). Current police officers who are certified by the POST can still submit an application through October 16, 2019.
This recruitment process will be for the creation of an eligibility list.
Uncertified individuals who wish to be considered for employment by the Town of Coventry as a Police Officer must, at the time of application, possess an Associate’s Degree; or a minimum of sixty (60) college course credits towards a degree; or have two (2) years of active Military duty, or have four (4) years of Military Reserve/National Guard duty; or be a graduate of a certified Police or Law Enforcement Academy; be a US Citizen; have an active driver’s license; and pass all testing requirements, including a written test, physical testing (which includes a swim test) in accordance with the RI Municipal Police Academy Physical Proficiency Standards, an oral interview, a background investigation, a psychological test, and a medical examination.
RI POST certified individuals who wish to be considered for employment by the Town of Coventry as a Police Officer must, at the time of application, be a US Citizen, have an active driver’s license, and pass all testing requirements. For those individuals who are not current police officers, applications will be accepted from qualified individuals who have retired from law enforcement in Rhode Island within the last three (3) years and who are currently certified by the RI POST, and who have retired in good standing.
